Fundrasing Dinner_Kechara Soup Kitchen_G Hotel Grand Ballroom

Tuesday, August 26th, 2008

Last night, I and my other colleagues went to the the fundraising dinner for Kechara Soup Kitchen at G Hotel, Gurney Drive Grand Ballroom. My company director, Dato’ Alfred Teh has made a personal contribution and supported for a table. That was the reason why I had the opportunity to be there that night.

Kechara Soup Kitchen is a Community Action Group, which consists of volunteers from all walks of life distributing food to the homeless and urban poor in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

We reached there around seven which the cocktail was being served. That was my first time joining this kind of dinner, felt so excited and so uncomfortable at the same time. Most of the people there know each other and they have started their own conversation. Seem like just nine of us that don’t know anyone there so we just sticked to each other.

Anzi helped us to take this photo before we was heading to the ballroom.

All of us wore black that night! All the pretty looks were being captured before we started enjoying the delicious dinner.

Anzi, her husband (Chung Yin) and her daughter (Vixi). Vixi is so cute, she is energetic and she always shows different kind of facial expression.

Left: Midah and her son                                                    Right: Linda and her husband.

The theme for that night was “Hunger Knows No Barriers“. The dinner was served around 8.30pm. At the same time, there were a lot of entertainments being performed.

Our table decoration…

Four Hot & Cold Combination (Fruit salad with crab meat stick, vegetarian kerabu with thai sauce, stir-fried chicken with black pepper, deep-fried eel with honey sesame sauce) -This dish was quite delicious especially the vegetarian kerabu with thai sauce.

Braised Shark’s Fin Soup with Fish Lip – Each of us was served with an individual bowl of shark fin soup. To me, I felt this dish was tested so so only. This photo was taken by Anzi; She only managed to take photo when she finished one bowl of shark’s fin soup. This was already her second bowl.

Rosted “Pi Pa” Duck – The skin was crispy and the meats remained tender and juicy.

Fried Prawns with Golden Garlic – The prawns were very fresh with garlic taste concealed in it. Yummy..taste great!

Stewed “Bailing” Mushrooms with Green Vegetables – I hardly eat mushroom but the

Steamed “Pa Tim” Fish with “Tom Yam” – The photo of this dish, steam fish was not be able to taken because of my camera already ran out of battery. However, I would like to say the fish was great with the Tom Yam gravy or might because I favor of the Tom yam sauce.

Fried Rice with Pineapple – Just a normal fried rice which I had nothing to comment.

Chilled Longan with Sea Coconut – These deserts tasted extremely sweet.

The dinner ended around eleven. I do believe all of us spent a great night and had a lot of fun together on that night.

Mum Birthday Celebration_Tian Tian Restaurant

Monday, August 25th, 2008

We celebrated my mother’s birthday at Everyday Supreme (Tian Tian) which located in Red Rock Hotel. Heard some recommendations from quite a lot of people that the food at the Tian Tian is good, so we decided to have a try. My first thought was the environment there is clean and spacious when I stepped into the place. Ee ee have already made reservation and ordered a few dishes as below a few days earlier.

Sea Prawn – This is my mother favourite food but she said that this dish at May Garden taste better. The prawns were not that fresh as were a bit “hard” but the gravy was really great.

Bean Curd – This was the special dish recommended by the waitress. No doubt that this dish was unique as the bean curds and the sea cucumbers were taste nice as well as the broccolis. In addition, the bean curd texture was smooth. I have never tried this kind of this elsewhere so I found it was quite nice.

Peking Duck – The waitress served us the crispy duck skin which was wrapped with the Poh Piah Skin, prawns, carrots and capsicum together with fresh lettuce leaves. It tasted great just that the Poh Piah Skin was a bit thick. However, the duck meat which was stir fried with spring onion and ginger did not taste as nice as my expectation. We were having difficulties to finish this dish. Only Sien felt that wasted and she was the one that kept eating until finished the whole plate.

Steam fish – The fish was steamed with soya sauce. It seemed not that fresh because it was a bit hard.

Overall the dishes were not up to my expectation and it was quite expensive (around RM250). I would say I felt a bit disappointed with the food but I really heard a lot of good responses and recommendations for this restaurant. I just wonder why the food that we ordered that night was not that great. Maybe we don’t know how to order or maybe the quality for the food on that particular night was a bit downgrade. I do hope I will feel satisfy the next time when I pay another visit to Tian Tian again one day in the future.

After the dinner, ee ee suggested we went to Baskin Robbins for our desserts.

That was the ice cream that we ordered and shared among me, mum, ee ee and Wei. Sien and May ordered one cone each for themselves.

Farewell for Elena_Hai Nan Town

Monday, August 11th, 2008

Hai Nan Town Restaurant
Tanjung City Marina,
8A, Pengkalan Weld,
10300, Penang.

Last Thursday, we went for to Hai Nan Town for Elena’s farewell dinner. Hai Nan Town serves typical nyonya foods and some Hainanese foods. I do not have the opportunity to look through the menu because Mun Ling already ordered all the food earlier.

That was our group of people who did the farewell dinner for Elena (the one who wore the green top). Actually she is the secretary of our director, Alfred. Although I just got to know her since last November when I joined ENG, she gave me a good impression. I still can remember when my first day at ENG, she saw me sat at the reception place like a silly gal, she just asked me “are you the new staff?” I nodded with a smile on my face, so she just lead me to my department and asked ILing (under finance team) to show me where should I sit. She got a lot of clothes and I hardly see her repeat wearing the same clothes to work.

Spring rolls – Just a bit oily but still very delicious especially deep with the sauce.

Asam prawns – I like prawns … Taste so yummy until I think I able to finish the whole plate if I was allowed. :P

Kacang botol – I heard Tong and Pei Ling also said this dish was delicious. To me, I just don’t quite like the smell of kacang botol but I managed to take some.

Beef – The curry beef is nice and tasty.

Inchi Kabin – I don’t know that this dish is called Inchi Kabin (Nyonya version of fried chicken) until Pei Ling told me this early morning. Not so special, just like normal fried chicken.

Otak – I don’t know how to give my comment to this food because I dare not eat this dish last time. I just started to try and took a bit day by day.

Asam curry fish – Mun Ling like this dish so much! She kept saying cannot eat too much but her hand like out of her control and kept on drinking the asam gravy without stopping. The gravy of the curry is not thick but still taste delicious.

Bee ko moay – This is the best. Don’t ever miss this desert whenever you visit Hai Nan Town!

08-08-08

Sunday, August 10th, 2008

08-08-08, This was a special and memorable day for them. They got to know each other and have been together during their college time at Tarc. Finally, they chose to continue their journey in a different way on the day, 8th August 08. Yun Yun, I am truly happy that you have found the person you want to spend the rest of your life with. I would like to wish you again – Congratulation! Actually, that was the first time I attended the registration ceremony. When I reached Che Hoon Khor around 6.30pm, I saw Yun Yun and Pheng were busy taking photos in order to capture down all their sweet and happy moments. She seemed very excited and kept practicing the love script. Guess, who was the latest person to reach there? At first, I thought that Ee would be the last person to reach because she drove back from Prai. However, I was so surprised that Gin was the last person to reach because she took her own sweet time by drove back home and took a bath before she came. All of us already sat inside the room and the ceremony was going to be started soon when Gin reached, she still dare to say “See, how fast am I to reach here?” Around 7.15pm, they were called into the room to sign for the marriage certificate. The whole session took around half an hour. We took a few photos together before heading to Cititel for dinner.

We went to Zhonghua Gourmet (CItitel Penang) for dinner. The photo below was taken after we finished the dinner when we already planned to go back. We cannot be too late because Yun Yun and Pheng would be driving back to SP on that night.

This was a great dinner for me, like a gathering with my school friends. We talked a lot of things and made a lot of fun during the short dinner time.

This was the first and second dishes. Shark fin soup – it tasted good. I am not sure the name of the second dish but there were a few type of food served in the dish.

Peking Duck is my favourite dish as well as Beijing’s most famous dish. This dish was served with pancakes, spring onions, cucumbers and hoisin sauce. The thin and crispy duck skin was sliced in front of us and it was very delicious. However, the duck meats were fried with black peppers which covered up the taste of the duck.

I am not sure what is this type of the fish called but I might felt that the fish would have one type of smell which I don’t quite like it. However, it is a matter of choice as taste buds vary from one person to another.

I love prawns and this dish will always catch my attention. The prawns were fresh as I able to taste the natural sweetness of the prawns.

Broccolis with mushrooms – I just ate the broccoli as I hardly eat mushrooms. I just noticed that BS mixed the sauce of this dish together with the fried rice.

The fried rice was not bad, just that a bit salty as it was cooked together with the salted fish. I felt so full after I finished the whole bowl of fried rice.

The honeydew sago tasted very unique as it combined the sweet and fragrant taste of fresh honeydew, sago and sweet corn in a refreshing syrup based drink. What makes this dish so different? This was the first time I had honeydew sago mix with sweet corn. However, it would be taste better if the sago was not boiled until too hard.

This was a great meal to me and I would like thank Yun Yun and Pheng again for the treat. Once I reached home at night, I just felt myself gained weight by 1kgs. Maybe because I was too greedy and ate too much food as I just cannot refuse for the attracting and delicious food that were served in front of me.

The Ship_The Best Steak in Town

Wednesday, August 6th, 2008

The Ship (The Best Steak in Town)

Jalan Sri Bahari, Penang.

Tonight I had dinner with my mum, ee ee and May at The Ship. The night before, Ee ee asked me whether would like to join them for dinner and I straight away replied her I don’t want. However, she told me they will be going to The Ship or Yataimura. Oh no! I just cannot afford the food temptation until I decided to join them for dinner and chose not going to gym.

Escargots Bourguinonne (Delicious French snails baked in chablis garlic sauce) – This is the appetizer; Wah I like this dish very much especially the sauce. However, ee ee and May felt that this dish is more delicious in Victoria Station. Actually I agree to them but I still unable to stop eating the sauce although already finished the snails.

Indonesian Oxtail (Savoury and spicy soup, brewed with aromatic herbs) – The oxtail is nice but just a bit salty. Eventually I also finish the whole bowl myself.

Chicken A’La King (Slices of chicken meat cooked in bechamel mushroom sauce, served with buttered rice and vegetables) – I don’t quite like the sauce because of the smell once the waiter served this dish to us. I just don’t know how to describe it but when I actually ate one mouth, I felt the taste still acceptable. However, I would not ever order this dish the next time I go to The Ship.

Fried Fish Fillet (Prime white fish fillet, deep fried with breadcrumbs, served with french fries and mini salad) – This dish was just like a normal fish and chips, nothing so special.

2008 Game Dinner (Combo set with Fish Mussel Soup, Appetizer, baked cheese prawn & beef and fruit & ice cream dessert) – I shared the dinner set with May. There are mangoes, prawns, tomatoes, cucumber and some vegetables in the appetizers. The two big prawns were fresh; the medium rare beef was tasty. The vanilla ice cream with some fruits and icing on top.

Chocolate Temptations – Mum ordered the chocolate ice cream, I only took one tea spoon. I think I would say I like Hagaan Dazz Ice cream more.

Guava Juice – Ee ee ordered the guava juice. She said is nice but I did not try.

Ryoma Japanese Restaurant_Penang

Tuesday, July 29th, 2008

5G, Jalan Tanjong Tokong 10470 Penang

Last night, I had my dinner at Ryoma Japanese Restaurant which was my first time went to this restaurant. Heard some recommendations from friends that the Japanese food at Ryoma is not bad, so I decided to have a try. We arrived early and were probably the first customers. We chose to have a nice private room, sitting on tatami mat on the floor. When I look at the menu, I just cannot make up my mind what I want to order. As there has too many varieties which most of all I also would like to try. At that time, How I wish that I could manage to eat as much as I can without feeling full. Finally, we made the decision and ordered six dishes.

That was the private room that we sat and enjoyed our delicious food.

Marinated Seaweed & Cucumber – That is my favorite dish recently as I will order this dish every time I have a meal in Japanese Restaurant.

Steamed Hamaguri – Ndru strongly recommended that this dish was delicious. Yes, I totally agreed especially the sauce which had some kind of wine taste. I like the sauce so much.

Cuttlefish Steak – Another delicious dish which made us ate non-stop although we already started to feel full.

Garlic Rice – The taste of the Garlic rice was great. When the waitress served the food to us, the smell of this dish made me felt more hungry.

Grilled Big Scallop – At first, we had no intention to order scallops but the waitress kept mentioning that the scallops are fresh and asked us to have a try. No doubt the scallop was very fresh, but it was a bit salty and the sauce already covered the original taste of the scallops.

Meato Gozen – We ordered the bento set with two bowl of steamed rice, Chawan Mushi and Miso soup. This set is worth eating as it is really huge portion and all the items are tasty as well.

All together the bill came up to nearly RM200. I think it was quite expensive but I felt worth with the money that we spent there. The service and the environment are also good. If you are a Japanese Food lover, this is the restaurant that you should not miss out.

Do you know what is this? Guess!

These are a few photos of Ryoma where I got from the Ryoma Website. Front entry, bar, two different kind of rooms and dining area.

My department’s outing_Ocean Green

Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008

On 5th July, we had a Finance Department’s outing. We had a karaoke session at RedBox from 3pm to 7pm. All of us enjoyed the singing session especially Pei Ling. I just can’t describe how well she sang especially her voice so suitable to sing those guys’s song. I suggested that she can go for singing competition. I would like to post some nice photo of her posing when she was singing but I just can’t find any great photos.

This was our group photo. (except ILing was not around)

Ocean Green

Address: Paramount Hotel, 48F Jalan Sultan Ahmad Shah, 10050 Penang.

Tel: 604-226 2681 & 604-227 4530

At night, we went Ocean Green for dinner. To me, I felt that the food was not bad but was quite expensive. I like the cheese stuff crab the most. The desert was not up to our expectation as maybe the honey dew sago was mix with ice cube which made the taste not that strong. Most of my colleagues complained about this dish and said don’t want to order this next time.

These were the food that we ordered that night which we spent nearly RM500++.

All the different poses captured when having the great food. So funny!

This time really was a group photo with all the people in…

That was the fun outing although quite tired. Hope to have this type of function more in the future but I just don’t want to be the organizer.

Mizi Bistro_New World Park Penang

Monday, July 7th, 2008

Last Wednesday, I had my Birthday Celebration Dinner with my mom, ee ee and two sisters(Sien and May) at Mizi Bistro. This was my second time having dinner at this restaurant. I would say that I got value for my money as 1 set of the “set dinner” just costs RM19.90 with one bowl of soup, one garlic bread, one glass of drink, one plate of main course and ice cream desert. I felt extremely full when I finished my dinner and walked out from the restaurant.

Mushroom soup -All of us ordered for the mushroom soup except Sien ordered the the Oxtail soup. I like the mushroom soup because is creamy, thick and tasty. It is hard to get this type of mushroom soup anywhere of the the restaurant.

Oxtail soup – Sien ordered this soup. She said was very tasty but I don’t quite like the smell.

My yummy fish which this dish is called as “my dream”. I still can remembered that the waiter told me that “Wish that your dreams come true”. Maybe because the fish was too creamy until I had the difficulty to finish my whole portion of the food.

My mom ordered the chicken which I already forgot the name of this dish. It was tasty…

This was the seafood pasta which was ordered by May. Due to the big portion, she can’t finish the pasta although it was delicious.

Sien ordered the steak – medium rare. She can’t stop praising for her food till she finished the very last bite.

This chicken was served the last but was not as tasty as expected. I would prefer the dish order by mom over this.

Deserts – You can help yourself with ice creams. There got six types of flavors and different kind of toppings for you to choose. I always reminded myself don’t be too greedy because I was sure that I unable to finish it.

I like the decoration of Mizi Bistro.
